Uzbekistan Airports joins Airport Carbon Accreditation

Nine airports operated by Uzbekistan Airports JSC have joined Airport Carbon Accreditation, marking the first step in a coordinated carbon management programme across the country’s airport network.

Samarkand, Urgench, Namangan, Fergana, Nukus, Termez, Karshi and Navoi International Airports have each been accredited at Level 1, having completed the mapping and measurement required to inventory their carbon footprints. Tashkent International Airport has joined directly at Level 2, having established a carbon management system and begun implementing measures to reduce its emissions. It is now the highest-accredited airport in Central Asia under Airport Carbon Accreditation.

Uzbekistan Airports JSC will now work to progress the whole network to higher accreditation levels by strengthening carbon management, improving energy efficiency, expanding emissions monitoring, engaging stakeholders and implementing long‑term decarbonisation initiatives. These efforts are intended to enhance the environmental performance and international competitiveness of Uzbekistan’s airports while contributing to global climate objectives.

Commenting on the achievement, Javlonbek Umarkhojaev, Chairman of Uzbekistan Airports JSC, said: “Achieving Airport Carbon Accreditation marks an important milestone in the sustainable transformation of Uzbekistan’s airport network. While we are proud of this recognition, we see it as the beginning of a long-term journey towards greater carbon efficiency, enhanced environmental performance and sustainable infrastructure development. We remain committed to continuously improving our carbon management practices in line with international best practices”.
