Taoyuan International Airport achieves Level 4

Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan, has reached Level 4 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme. Operated by Taoyuan International Airport Corporation the airport is now aligned with the global climate goals of the Paris Agreement aiming to reach net zero by 2050.

Building on its initial accreditation at Level 2  in 2016 and a steady climb through the programme’s levels, Taoyuan International Airport has worked closely with 85 stakeholders across the aviation, ground handling, and commercial sectors to drive collective carbon reduction. The airport has expanded infrastructure to support the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels, optimised bridge air and electric power systems to encourage cleaner aircraft operations, and transitioned ground service vehicles—including shuttle buses and baggage tractors—to electric alternatives. Public and airside EV charging stations have also been installed to support this shift.

Significant emissions reductions have been achieved within terminal buildings through the optimisation of HVAC systems, upgrades to energy-efficient lighting, and enhancements to escalators and elevators. As a result, over the past five years, the airport has reduced 8,877 metric tonnes of CO₂e—equivalent to the emissions generated by more than 3.6 million passengers or the carbon absorption of 23 Da’an Forest Parks.
