Salvador Bahia Airport is now the highest accredited airport in Brazil

Salvador Bahia Airport, operated by VINCI Airports, has achieved Level 4+ of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, making it the highest-accredited airport in Brazil and only the second in Latin America and the Caribbean to reach this level.

Over the past seven years, the airport has taken decisive action to decarbonise its operations and is firmly on track to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. A key part of this journey has been the development of two photovoltaic plants with a total capacity of 4.6 MWp. One plant now meets 30% of the terminal’s energy demand, while the other fully powers three consumer units in the cargo area. Salvador Bahia Airport has also transitioned entirely to renewable energy sources for its operations.

Beyond its own footprint, the airport has prioritised collaboration with companies and operational partners to drive down Scope 3 emissions. This includes the electrification of ground support equipment and the provision of Ground Power Units and Pre-Conditioned Air systems to reduce the use of aircraft APUs.

With COP 30 approaching, the climate agenda becomes even more relevant, and we remain aligned with global goals to ensure a more sustainable future”.
