Ravinala Airports reach Level 3 by engaging third parties in carbon footprint reduction

April 23, 2025

Ravinala Airports has taken another important step on its decarbonisation journey, as Antananarivo and Nosy-Be International Airports successfully upgrade to Level 3 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme.

Both airports are making real progress in reducing carbon emissions, not only from their own operations but also through collaboration with third parties such as airlines, ground handlers, and concessionaires, ensuring that emissions are addressed across the wider airport ecosystem.

With an ambitious target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, the two airports have taken significant steps to embed sustainability into every facet of their operations. From implementing robust carbon data collection procedures to launching carbon reduction action plans, the path to a low-carbon future is clearly defined. This includes close engagement with third-party operators and setting out a publicly communicated carbon reduction commitment.

At Nosy-Be International Airport, solar shading infrastructure now powers daytime terminal operations with renewable energy. With a production capacity of 52kWp, these installations are already helping reduce the airport’s annual carbon footprint. Meanwhile, broader efforts are underway to reduce environmental impacts across the board—from improved waste management to biodiversity protection in line with international standards.
