Pau Pyrénées Airport achieves Level 3

Pau Pyrénées Airport in France, has successfully upgraded to Level 3 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme. This achievement reflects the airport’s strengthened commitment to carbon management, notably by including key Scope 3 emissions in its footprint assessment, with the goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050.

The airport has implemented a range of practical initiatives to reduce its environmental impact. These include the installation of LED lighting, the deployment of a Building Management System to optimise energy use in lighting and HVAC systems, and the gradual replacement of thermal vehicles and equipment with electric alternatives. To reduce aircraft emissions on the ground, the airport supplies electricity to aircraft to limit the use of Auxiliary Power Units (APUs).

Pau Pyrénées Airport has also conducted a comprehensive building energy audit and launched internal awareness campaigns promoting workplace energy sobriety. Its stakeholder engagement is supported by a dedicated partners’ charter, ensuring collaborative efforts toward decarbonisation. In terms of energy sourcing, the airport has signed a supply contract that includes a 25% biogas blend, contributing further to its emissions reduction goals.
