Nice Côte d’Azur Airport achieves Level 5 of Airport Carbon Accreditation, reaching net zero for emissions under its control

Airport Carbon Accreditation is proud to announce that Nice Côte d’Azur Airport has reached the highest level of the programme, Level 5. The airport has reduced more than 90% of its Scope 1 and 2 emissions and has committed to reaching net zero for Scope 3 emissions by 2050 or sooner.

Since joining the programme in 2011, Nice Côte d’Azur Airport has consistently demonstrated leadership in decarbonisation. By 2024, the airport had already reduced greenhouse gas emissions linked to its activities by 93%, thanks to an ambitious strategy launched in 2010. Key actions include the full transition to renewable electricity, the deployment of an electric vehicle fleet, the use of HVO 100 biodiesel for generators, optimisation of energy consumption across infrastructure and equipment, and the replacement of gas boilers with geothermal and waste heat recovery systems.

Looking to the future, the airport is committed to reaching net zero for Scope 3 emissions by 2050. This plan involves close collaboration with partners such as airlines and ground handlers, focusing on the deployment of Sustainable Aviation Fuels, preparing infrastructure for hydrogen and electric aircraft, supporting fleet renewal, and advancing operational optimisation measures such as trajectory and taxiing efficiency improvements.
