Fiji Airports breaks ground on major solar project at Nadi International Airport

September 28, 2026

Fiji Airports, operator of Level 4 accredited Nadi International Airport, has started construction of a 3.25 MW solar farm that will provide renewable electricity for the airport’s operations and help reduce its carbon emissions.

The solar farm will generate enough renewable electricity to meet Nadi International Airport’s current demand of around 2.5 MW, with additional capacity available to support future landside developments. The system is also designed to be scalable to 8 to 10 MW, allowing renewable energy generation to expand alongside the airport’s future energy needs.

Once completed, the project will be the largest airport solar power system in Fiji, reducing the airport’s reliance on conventional electricity sources while supporting lower operating costs and emissions.

The project forms part of Fiji Airports’ wider renewable energy strategy, which includes plans to expand solar generation and battery storage across its operations. Construction is now underway, with completion expected by the end of 2027.

The investment builds on Nadi International Airport’s work under Level 4 of Airport Carbon Accreditation, as the airport continues to strengthen its carbon management and reduce emissions from its operations.

Fiji Airports Chief Executive Officer, Mesake Nawari, said: “The Solar Farm is an investment in the future of Nadi International Airport and Fiji’s aviation sector. It strengthens our commitment to environmental stewardship while supporting more efficient airport operations and reducing our carbon footprint.”

The project also supports Fiji’s Vision 2050 and forms part of the airport’s wider approach to combining infrastructure investment, operational resilience and environmental sustainability.
