Vitória Airport begins construction of major solar energy complex

septiembre 28, 2026
Vitória Airport in Brazil has started construction of a new solar power complex that will provide renewable electricity for its operations and support its efforts to reduce emissions.
Led by Zurich Airport Brasil, the project represents an investment of R$20 million and will have an installed capacity of 5.8 MWp. The complex will comprise around 8,000 solar panels across four solar plants and is expected to generate approximately 769 MWh of electricity per month, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 5,000 households.
Once operational, the solar complex will reduce the airport’s reliance on conventional electricity while increasing the share of renewable energy in its operations.
The project builds on other measures already underway at Vitória Airport. Since 2024, the airport has provided renewable electricity to aircraft while they are on the ground, an initiative that has prevented approximately 6,600 tonnes of CO₂ emissions to date.
