Vancouver International Airport gives travellers a role in supporting Sustainable Aviation Fuel

septiembre 28, 2026
Vancouver International Airport has launched a new online tool allowing travellers to estimate the greenhouse gas emissions associated with their flight and contribute to the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
The initiative supports YVR’s efforts to accelerate the transition to lower carbon aviation and raise awareness of the role SAF can play in reducing aviation emissions. The airport is currently accredited at Level 4+ of Airport Carbon Accreditation, reflecting its continued work to reduce emissions from its operations and engage stakeholders across its wider airport ecosystem.
Contributions made through the calculator support the environmental attributes associated with SAF, enabling airlines to increase their use of the fuel, starting with Air Canada. The tool is available to all passengers, regardless of the airline they travel with.
The initiative brings together Vancouver International Airport, Air Canada, the Government of British Columbia and the Canadian Council for Sustainable Aviation Fuels, highlighting the role of collaboration between airports, airlines, government and travellers in supporting the development and uptake of SAF.
Commenting on the initiative, Tamara Vrooman, President and CEO of Vancouver International Airport, said: “Sustainable Aviation Fuel is one of the most effective options available today to make meaningful progress towards decarbonizing aviation. This new tool gives travellers the opportunity to help increase the use of SAF and support more sustainable air travel.”
The initiative adds to Vancouver International Airport’s wider work to support aviation decarbonisation and the transition towards net zero emissions by 2050.
