Sangster International Airport reaches Level 3 of Airport Carbon Accreditation

Sangster International Airport in Jamaica has been upgraded to Level 3 of Airport Carbon Accreditation, recognising the airport’s continued progress in reducing its carbon footprint and strengthening collaboration across the wider airport community.

Operated by MBJ Airports Limited, the airport has advanced its carbon management by moving beyond emissions under its direct control and engaging third parties in carbon footprint management. At Level 3 of the programme, airports are required to work with airlines, ground handlers, catering companies, air traffic control providers, public authorities and other organisations operating on or serving the airport to identify opportunities for emissions reductions across the airport ecosystem.

A key initiative supporting this achievement is the installation of a solar photovoltaic system on the terminal roof, helping increase the use of renewable energy in airport operations while contributing to the airport’s wider sustainability objectives.
