Dublin Airport becomes Ireland’s highest accredited airport in Airport Carbon Accreditation

Dublin Airport has become the highest accredited airport in Ireland after achieving Level 4+ of Airport Carbon Accreditation, reinforcing the airport’s efforts to cut emissions across its operations and prepare for net zero by 2050.

Operated by daa, the airport is aligning its carbon management with long term climate goals and working towards net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The achievement reflects a broader sustainability strategy focused on reducing emissions across airport operations through electrification, energy efficiency and renewable energy.

A major part of this transition is the electrification of airport operations. Dublin Airport is progressively replacing its light vehicle fleet with electric vehicles while expanding airside charging infrastructure for third party operators. The airport is also planning the electrification of buses and heating systems, including the installation of electric heat pumps to replace gas boilers used for space and water heating.

Alongside electrification, Dublin Airport continues to invest in renewable and lower carbon energy solutions. Its on site solar farm is generating renewable electricity for airport facilities, helping reduce reliance on the national grid. The airport is also exploring fuel switching solutions, including the use of renewable natural gas, while advancing plans linked to hydrogen production and use for vehicles, power units and combined heat and power systems.
