Adelaide Airport achieves Level 4

enero 5, 2025
We are thrilled to announce that Adelaide Airport in Australia has successfully upgraded to Level 4 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme.
This achievement reflects Adelaide Airport’s commitment to long-term carbon emissions reduction, fully aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. The airport has set ambitious targets, aiming for a 100% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3 by 2050.
As of FY24, the airport has already achieved an impressive 73% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from its 2018 baseline. Notably, Adelaide Airport was also the first in Australia to achieve Level 1 accreditation in 2013, showcasing its long-standing dedication to carbon management.
Over the past year, Adelaide Airport has implemented several impactful initiatives to advance its decarbonisation efforts. These include launching a renewable Power Purchasing Agreement (PPA), which from January 2024 will deliver a 100% reduction in Scope 2 emissions. The airport is also installing a 2.3MW solar system on its terminal, expected to be operational by early 2025, alongside the deployment of smart electricity meters across the precinct to enhance energy monitoring and management. Energy efficiency measures have been a priority, with completed upgrades to LED lighting across indoor and outdoor spaces at both Adelaide and Parafield Airports, including streets, aprons, terminals, and car parks. Additionally, optimising the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system in the terminal has further reduced energy consumption.
Adelaide Airport is also playing a leading role in the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in South Australia. The airport is leveraging its infrastructure, partnerships, and technical expertise to support the rapid scaling of SAF production and use. As part of this commitment, Adelaide Airport has been actively engaging with stakeholders, conducting research into SAF production pathways, and undertaking concept studies. Recently, the airport signed a Letter of Intent with Zero Petroleum, the South Australian Government, and Qantas to conduct a feasibility study on SAF production in South Australia.
