Aalborg Airport achieves Level 4+ in Airport Carbon Accreditation

Aalborg Airport has upgraded to Level 4+ of Airport Carbon Accreditation, recognising its work to reduce emissions from airport controlled operations, engage stakeholders and address emissions across its wider airport ecosystem.

The upgrade reflects closer collaboration with key partners, the mapping of all Scope 3 emissions and continued action to reduce CO₂ emissions through electrification, expanded charging infrastructure and systematic energy optimisation. Since 2018, the airport has reduced electricity consumption by 10.8%, while 99% of lighting across its terminal, parking areas, runway and apron had been converted to LED by 2024.

The airport is also progressively replacing operational equipment with electric alternatives. In 2025, 59% of this equipment was electrically powered, supported by expanded charging facilities for both airport operations and rental car companies. An airport wide energy screening and hourly energy monitoring through EnergyKey have helped identify and respond to opportunities to improve efficiency.

Aalborg Airport also works with partners across the aviation and energy sectors to support the future availability of Sustainable Aviation Fuel. Residual Scope 1 and 2 emissions, as well as business travel, are compensated through carbon credits from the Danish Agreena Carbon Project.

Initiatives such as converting almost all lighting to LED, electrifying operational equipment and closely monitoring energy consumption have been important steps in that work. Reaching Level 4+ is a part of our continued efforts to reduce emissions and support the wider transition of the aviation sector”.
