Albuquerque International Sunport achieves Level 2 of Airport Carbon Accreditation

Albuquerque International Sunport in the United States has achieved Level 2 of Airport Carbon Accreditation, reflecting the establishment of a structured carbon management framework and the implementation of concrete actions to reduce its carbon footprint.

The airport joined the programme at Level 1 in 2023 and has since focused on improving energy efficiency across its operations as part of its progress under the programme. This includes the conversion of legacy lighting systems to LED technology and enhanced preventive maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and other key equipment to ensure optimum performance and efficiency.

Albuquerque International Sunport has also taken steps to reduce fuel consumption by introducing electric vehicles into its fleet. Four electric vehicles are now in operation, alongside two electric bobcat loaders, supporting lower emissions from airside and landside activities. In parallel, the airport is partially powering its terminal with solar energy, further contributing to emissions reductions through the use of renewable electricity.
