Zurich Airport Brazil expands electric fleet across its operations

Zurich Airport Brazil, has introduced five electric vehicles into its operational fleet across Florianópolis, Vitória and Macaé airports, all accredited at Level 4 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme,  as part of its wider decarbonisation strategy.

The RD6 electric 4×4 vehicles, supplied by Riddara, will be used in restricted airside areas, including runway inspections and technical support operations. The initiative is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 15,000 kilograms per year across the three airports. Zurich Airport Brazil has also indicated that it plans to progressively replace its entire operational fleet with electric or hybrid vehicles in the coming years.

The deployment of electric vehicles forms part of a broader sustainability strategy focused on emissions reduction by 2040. Since 2025, the airports managed by Zurich Airport Brazil have achieved zero landfill status, with all waste directed to recycling, composting or co-processing. The airports also operate on 100% renewable electricity, supported by onsite solar generation at three of the four airports.

Additional initiatives include rainwater harvesting for sanitary use, wastewater treatment and reuse systems, and the annual preparation of greenhouse gas emissions inventories to support ongoing emissions management.
