Sihanouk International Airport upgrades to Level 3 Optimisation

September 20, 2024

We are delighted to announce that Sihanouk International Airport in Cambodia, has successfully upgraded to Level 3 Optimisation of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme.

This achievement underscores the airport’s dedication to expanding its carbon management efforts by including Scope 3 emissions, which involves working closely with third-party operators to reduce their environmental impact.

Operated by VINCI Airports, Sihanouk International Airport has made significant investments to reach this new milestone. The airport has implemented efficient chiller systems for its central air conditioning, upgraded all lighting to energy-saving LED technology, and introduced automatic systems to optimise energy consumption in its main buildings. Additionally, it has conducted awareness campaigns throughout the airport community to promote sustainable behaviours and carbon reduction initiatives.

As part of its Stakeholder Engagement Programme, the airport has also engaged third parties, such as restaurants, fuel suppliers, and airlines, ensuring that the environmental benefits extend throughout the entire airport ecosystem.

Cyril GIROT, CEO of Cambodia Airports, said: “We are continuing our commitment to fighting climate change, intensifying our efforts in every possible way to substantiate our vision for Positive Mobility. Having our partners join concrete actions that we have implemented bodes well for our next accomplishments. I want to express my appreciation to them and to our personnel for their crucial contribution.”
