Santiago International Airport achieves Level 3

December 27, 2025
Santiago International Airport in Chile, the country’s busiest airport, has achieved Level 3 of Airport Carbon Accreditation. Having joined the programme in 2017, the airport now actively engages third parties in the management of its carbon footprint.
As part of its objective to reach net zero emissions by 2050, Santiago International Airport has delivered measurable progress through a series of initiatives implemented in recent years. Between 2022 and 2024, the airport reduced its direct emissions by 9.4%. Electricity consumption is now fully covered by renewable energy sources, supported by the installation of a photovoltaic plant with 2,000 solar panels. Further measures include the introduction of electric vehicles, upgrades to air conditioning systems, the transition to LED lighting and the adoption of the ISO 50001 energy management system.
Action has also been taken to strengthen water and waste management. Efficiency improvements, the use of technologies such as the ORCA biodigester and expanded recycling programmes enabled the airport to reach a recycling rate of 12.4% in 2024, with a target of 40% by 2030. In the same year, Santiago International Airport received the ACI LAC Green Airport Recognition 2024 and reinforced its local engagement through the donation of 610 native trees to the Pudahuel district.
