Punta del Este International Airport joins Airport Carbon Accreditation at Level 1 Mapping

We are delighted to announce that Punta del Este International Airport in Uruguay has successfully entered the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme at Level 1 Mapping.

By joining at Level 1 Mapping, Punta del Este International Airport has committed to conduct a comprehensive analysis of its CO₂ emissions and develop structured plans to reduce them.

Operated by Aeropuertos Uruguay, the airport has already taken meaningful steps to reduce its carbon footprint. Key actions include the replacement of outdated chiller units with advanced, energy-efficient technology, significantly lowering electricity consumption. Punta del Este International Airport is also progressing in the transition to LED lighting, with 50% of lights in the terminal and parking areas already replaced, contributing to greater energy efficiency.

Further demonstrating its commitment to decarbonisation, the airport has upgraded its runway beaconing system by incorporating LED technology, enhancing safety while reducing electricity consumption. Additionally, a UV disinfection system has been installed at the wastewater treatment plant, ensuring improved environmental standards in wastewater management.
