Punta Cana International Airport enters at Level 2 Reduction
December 20, 2023
We are thrilled to announce that Punta Cana International Airport, in the Dominican Republic, has successfully met all the necessary criteria to enter Airport Carbon Accreditation directly at Level 2 Reduction.
At this level, airports need to demonstrate effective carbon management practices, including target setting, and to achieve significant reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
Punta Cana International Airport, the first in the Dominican Republic to be awarded the triple ISO certification (9001, 14001, and 14064-1), has shown a remarkable commitment to sustainability, achieving a 40,8% reduction in carbon footprint per passenger. Key to the airport’s success has been the use of photovoltaic energy, and the installation of LED lighting.
Congratulations for Punta Cana International Airport on this great achievement and fingers crossed for their journey to reaching net zero emissions by 2050 across the entire airport ecosystem.
