Nanaimo Airport achieves Level 2 Reduction

January 25, 2024

We are thrilled to announce that Nanaimo Airport in Canada has met all the necessary requirements to upgrade to Level 2 Reduction of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme.

Operated by Nanaimo Airport Commission, Nanaimo Airport has effectively demonstrated well-defined carbon management practices and target setting, that led to a significant reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

Nanaimo Airport is actively addressing CO2 emissions under its direct control through several initiatives. The airport’s investment in zero-emission vehicles prevented the emission of 57,888 kg of greenhouse gas emissions in 2021.

Nanaimo Airport ensures that all waste is recycled and collaborates closely with external suppliers who also prioritise minimising their environmental impact. These efforts are part of the airport’s broader strategy to reduce its environmental footprint and achieve Net Zero emissions by 2030.
