Nadi International Airport aligns with the Paris Agreement as it reaches Level 4 of Airport Carbon Accreditation

April 24, 2025

Nadi International Airport has successfully upgraded to Level 4 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, becoming the first airport in the Blue Pacific region to achieve this level.

Operated by Fiji Airports, Nadi International Airport has been part of the programme since 2017 and reached carbon neutrality in 2020. The airport has now taken its efforts further by setting a long-term absolute carbon emissions reduction target aligned with the Paris Agreement.

Among its initiatives, Nadi International Airport has deployed 14 solar-powered electric vehicles, supported by a battery storage system that stores surplus solar energy to power streetlights and external signage around the airport. This effort not only reduces emissions but also enhances energy resilience across the airport compound.

The airport is also working in close collaboration with airlines and key stakeholders to understand and support strategies that reduce the carbon impact of aircraft operations, helping to address emissions beyond its immediate control.

Stefano Baronci, Director General, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East, said: “We congratulate Nadi International Airport for its remarkable achievement in attaining Level 4 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation, becoming the first airport in the Blue Pacific region to reach this significant milestone. By establishing itself as a leader in carbon management, Nadi International Airport displays a robust commitment to fostering a sustainable future. This accomplishment aligns perfectly with our industry’s collective vision of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.”
