Murtala Muhammed International Airport reaches Level 2

January 10, 2024

We are delighted to announce that Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria, has successfully reached Level 2 Reduction in the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme.

This level requires airports to demonstrate effective carbon management practices, including setting targets and achieving significant reductions in Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

Operated by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Murtala Muhammed International Airport is taking significant steps towards sustainability, aiming to further reduce its carbon emissions. One of its key initiatives is the transition to energy-saving LED lighting systems, replacing less efficient traditional lighting.

In addition, FAAN is committed to integrating energy-efficient equipment throughout its operations and increasing the use of renewable energy sources, especially solar power, to decrease its dependence on fossil fuels.
