Houston Airport System airports achieve Level 2 Reduction

We are delighted to confirm that George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports have successfully met all the necessary requirements to upgrade to Level 2 Reduction of the Airport Carbon Accreditation.

Operated by the Houston Airport System, both airports have demonstrated effective carbon management practices, including target setting and a clear reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Houston Airports is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and has already taken significant steps toward this goal, including transitioning to an all-electric vehicle fleet, installing solar panels, upgrading to LED lighting, and modernising terminals. These efforts are supported by initiatives such as a more efficient central utility plant, a new solar photovoltaic array, increased use of LED lighting, and reduced equipment run times.

Between 2019 and 2022 (excluding 2020), Houston Airports successfully reduced emissions, achieving a 16% reduction at George Bush Intercontinental and a 22% reduction at William P. Hobby Airport.
