Greater Moncton International Airport progresses to Level 3
July 5, 2019
After successful achievement of its Level 2 accreditation just last year, the Greater Moncton International Airport Authority Inc. (GMIAA), the operator of the Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport (YQM) has been successful in achieving Level 3 ‘Optimisation’ of Airport Carbon Accreditation.
This has been achieved with the airport’s own efforts combined with those of third parties who share their environmental goals, including airlines, service providers and suppliers. Examples of some related achievements over the past year include:
- Initiatives to reduce the airport’s electricity consumption, including LED upgrades and building system improvements
- Development of a Carbon Management Plan and a Stakeholder Engagement Plan
- Further expanded the scope of carbon footprint tracking to not only include GMIAA emissions but the wider YQM community.
- Increased communication and awareness among employees and tenants in an effort to further reduce emissions through training sessions, enhanced communications (i.e. meetings, newsletters) and procedural changes).
With initiatives planned for 2019 and beyond, the airport is confident that it will successfully continue to proactively improve its carbon footprint. Kudos for your great work!
