The achievement makes Libreville the third airport in the African region to reach Level 4+.<\/p>\n<p>Operated by GSEZ Airport, Libreville L\u00e9on Mba International Airport has a long standing commitment to carbon management. The airport first joined <em>Airport Carbon Accreditation<\/em> at Level 1 in 2015, making it one of the first airports in Africa to participate in the programme. It has since progressed through the levels, reflecting continued efforts to strengthen its carbon management and reduce its environmental footprint.<\/p>\n<p>The airport\u2019s progression to Level 4+ builds on a structured approach focused on reducing its carbon footprint, improving the energy and operational efficiency of its facilities and engaging the wider airport community in decarbonisation.<\/p>\n<p>A key focus has been the monitoring and control of energy consumption, enabling the airport to identify its main sources of emissions and implement targeted measures to improve efficiency. GSEZ Airport is also working to improve the energy performance of its infrastructure by optimising equipment and installations, while progressively exploring cleaner and more efficient solutions for vehicles, equipment and other assets used across its operations.<\/p>\n<p>Recognising that airport decarbonisation requires action across the wider airport community, GSEZ Airport is also working with airlines, ground handling companies, service providers, suppliers, authorities and other partners operating at the airport. This engagement supports coordinated action and encourages emissions reductions beyond the airport operator\u2019s direct control.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the achievement, Igor Simard, Director General of Libreville L\u00e9on Mba International Airport, said: \u201cAchieving Level 4+ of <em>Airport Carbon Accreditation<\/em> marks a major milestone in our commitment to a more sustainable and responsible aviation sector. This international recognition is the result of a collective effort, a continuous commitment to improvement and the mobilisation of our teams and partners. It reflects our ambition to make Libreville L\u00e9on Mba International Airport a leading airport platform in Africa, combining operational excellence, environmental performance and sustainable development.
