\u00c4ngelholm\u2013Helsingborg Airport in Sweden, currently accredited at Level 3+ of Airport Carbon Accreditation<\/em>, is making significant progress in reducing its carbon footprint. Over the past decade, the airport has reduced significantly its Scope 1 and 2 emissions, thanks to a wide range of energy-saving measures. These efforts included the introduction of green district heating, LED lighting, a switch from oil to RME boilers, and the use of demand-controlled systems. Complementing these measures, solar panels installed on the airport roof now produce over 47 MWh annually, making the terminal self-sufficient in electricity.<\/p>\n

The majority of the airport\u2019s ground vehicles \u2013 such as baggage trucks, conveyor belts and aircraft stairs \u2013 are now electric, a practical solution for a compact airport with short distances and ample charging time between flights. The transition to electric vehicles continues, with environmentally friendly alternatives prioritised when replacing older units. Since 2007, the airport has also been investing in electric mobility for passengers and staff, now offering 20 electric vehicle charging points, which delivered 5,771 kWh of power in 2024 alone, avoiding 5.19 tonnes of CO\u2082.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, the airport is taking a leading role in the next phase of the national Green Airport<\/em> collaboration, running through to 2028. This initiative aims to accelerate Sweden\u2019s transition to fossil-free aviation, with a focus on innovation, regional mobility and the integration of new aircraft technologies. By engaging with local and regional partners, \u00c4ngelholm\u2013Helsingborg Airport is helping to shape a more sustainable future for Swedish aviation \u2013 not only on the ground, but in the skies as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
