{"id":14263,"date":"2025-04-03T10:19:41","date_gmt":"2025-04-03T08:19:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.airportcarbonaccreditation.org\/?p=14263"},"modified":"2025-11-20T09:59:34","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T08:59:34","slug":"airports-save-one-million-tonnes-of-co%e2%82%82-under-airport-carbon-accreditation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.airportcarbonaccreditation.org\/fr\/airports-save-one-million-tonnes-of-co%e2%82%82-under-airport-carbon-accreditation\/","title":{"rendered":"Airports save one million tonnes of CO\u2082 under Airport Carbon Accreditation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Brussels, 2 April 2025:<\/strong>\u00a0Airports Council International has today released the annual results on carbon performance and participation trends for its global carbon management standard for airports,<em> Airport Carbon Accreditation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The newly released report spans the period from May 2023 through May 2024, with headline results including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accredited airports collectively reduced over <strong>1 million tonnes of CO<sub>2<\/sub><\/strong>: -1,037,292 CO<sub>2e<\/sub> (-14.8%);<\/li>\n<li>The number of accredited airports rose to <strong>558 across 87 countries <\/strong>\u2014 with<strong> 70 airports <\/strong>joining the programme for the first time and<strong> 132 <\/strong>progressing to a higher level of carbon management;<\/li>\n<li><strong>More than half of the world\u2019s passengers<\/strong> travelled through an <em>Airport Carbon Accredited <\/em>airport (51.5%<sup>1<\/sup> of global passenger traffic covered);<\/li>\n<li>At the end of the reporting period, <strong>15 airports<\/strong> had achieved the highest <strong>Level 5<\/strong> accreditation, having reached net zero for emissions under their control (scopes 1 &amp; 2) and committed to full decarbonisation across all scopes by 2050.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Olivier Jankovec, ACI EUROPE Director General<\/strong> said: <em>\u201cWith science leaving no doubt over the fact that global warming is accelerating and that climate action must remain a top priority, it is heartening to see that reducing carbon has truly become embedded in airport management across the globe. For the 15th year running, Airport Carbon Accreditation has outperformed the previous year\u2019s results, with impressive participation growth in all regions and substantial CO<sub>2<\/sub> savings. This was also the first full reporting period featuring the newly established Level 5, which certifies airports that have achieved net zero for emissions from sources under their control. Fifteen airports globally held this accreditation at the end of the period \u2014 demonstrating step change in climate leadership.
