Skopje International Airport achieves Level 3 of Airport Carbon Accreditation

On an important step to fulfill its objectives and  become carbon neutral by 2030, Skopje International Airport in North Macedonia has achieved Level 3 of Airport Carbon Accreditation.

Operated by TAV Airports, the airport continues to strengthen its long term climate responsibility, in line with the Group’s objectives to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 across all airports in its portfolio.

To reach Level 3, Skopje International Airport has implemented a wide range of measures focused on both reducing its own emissions and engaging third parties operating on site. These include the introduction of an energy efficiency and monitoring programme aligned with international methodologies, the upgrade of airside and landside lighting systems to high efficiency LED technology, and optimisation programmes for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and terminal systems.

The airport has also deployed hybrid ground support equipment and supported the transition towards a more environmentally friendly vehicle fleet. In parallel, it has expanded renewable energy production and procurement, while working closely with airlines and service providers through joint initiatives aimed at reducing emissions beyond the airport’s direct control.

A key element of the Level 3 achievement is the establishment of a climate action stakeholder platform, enabling data sharing, performance monitoring and coordination of emissions reduction plans with partners across the airport ecosystem.

At Level 3, the airport is also broadening the scope of its carbon footprint to include third party emissions, reinforcing its pathway towards the objective of reaching net zero by 2050.
