Riga Airport reaches Level 3+, becoming the highest accredited airport in the Baltics

novembre 6, 2025
Riga Airport is now the highest accredited airport in the Baltic region within Airport Carbon Accreditation, having reached Level 3+.
Since joining the programme in 2015, the airport has implemented a broad range of initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency, increasing the use of renewable energy sources, and promoting sustainable transport across the airport area. These efforts have resulted in substantial reductions in carbon emissions and strengthened the airport’s role as a leader in carbon management in the region.
Looking ahead, Riga Airport’s strategy and long-term development plan set out a clear pathway towards its goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2035. The airport is continuing to invest in renewable energy generation, the electrification of ground handling equipment, and close collaboration with airlines, passengers, and partners to create a more sustainable travel experience for all.
“The ACA Level 3+ certificate is a significant achievement on our journey toward the NetZero 2035 goal. This recognition confirms our commitment to implementing real, measurable climate impact reduction measures and proves that sustainable aviation development is possible when environmental responsibility is embedded in everyday operations. Without accountability for the industry’s impact on climate change, growth in aviation today is no longer conceivable.” said Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of the Board of Riga Airport.
