Reunion Island Roland Garros Airport upgrades to Level 4+

août 25, 2025
Reunion Island Roland Garros Airport has achieved Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation, reflecting its strong commitment to decarbonisation. Since joining the programme in 2018, the airport progressed through Level 2 in 2019 and Level 3 in 2020. By 2023, it had already reduced its carbon-equivalent emissions from operations and electricity consumption by half compared to 2014 levels.
This achievement recognises over a decade of focused actions, including comprehensive energy management and the installation of large-scale photovoltaic power plants that now generate nearly 30% of the airport’s electricity requirements.
Reunion Island Roland Garros Airport is also strengthening engagement with its business partners aiming to decarbonise its entire ecosystem. The airport is preparing to upgrade its fuel storage facilities to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to airlines starting in 2030, in alignment with European Union targets, further supporting the decarbonisation of air travel.
