Raleigh Durham International Airport begins mapping its carbon footprint

Raleigh Durham International Airport in North Carolina has joined Airport Carbon Accreditation at Level 1, beginning its carbon management journey by measuring and mapping its carbon footprint.

Operated by the Raleigh Durham Airport Authority, the airport has begun by identifying emissions sources, including vehicles, emergency generators and electricity consumption, and calculating its annual carbon footprint. This work supports the Authority’s policy to reduce emissions and inform long term sustainability planning.

“This accreditation reflects our commitment to understanding our environmental impact and finding practical ways to make a difference,” said Tammie Hall Roberts, Chair of the Raleigh Durham Airport Authority Board. “Knowing where our emissions come from will help us continue to make thoughtful, informed decisions over time.”

The Airport Authority plans to build on this foundation as it works towards Level 2 of Airport Carbon Accreditation, with further action to reduce emissions across its operations.
