Edmonton International Airport reaches Level 3 in Airport Carbon Accreditation

octobre 29, 2025

Edmonton International Airport in Canada has successfully advanced to Level 3 of Airport Carbon Accreditation, marking a significant milestone in its journey towards achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

By reaching this level, the airport has demonstrated real progress in reducing its carbon footprint and broadening the scope of its emissions management to include third-party emissions – those generated by airport partners such as airlines and ground handlers.

Over the past five years, Edmonton Airports has undertaken a series of impactful sustainability initiatives. These include the construction of a $12 million natural gas-powered CoGeneration facility, which has reduced combined Scope 1 and 2 emissions by approximately five per cent; the replacement of more than 18,000 light fixtures with energy-efficient LEDs; and the completion of a comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory in accordance with the GHG Protocol.

Myron Keehn, President and CEO of Edmonton International Airport (YEG), said: “Achieving ACA Level 3 is a significant milestone that reflects YEG’s commitment to sustainability and climate action. Our airport city sustainability campus plays a vital role in shaping a more sustainable future for the aviation industry through innovation, collaboration and clean technology. We are committed to advancing our carbon management initiatives, transparent data reporting and strategic partner engagement. This Level 3 achievement marks an important step as we continue progressing toward the next levels of ACA and a net-zero future.”
