Cluster2 Airports in Saudi Arabia strengthen climate action with Airport Carbon Accreditation upgrades and renewals

mai 15, 2026

The 22 airports in Saudi Arabia operated by Cluster2 Airports have successfully upgraded and renewed their certifications in Airport Carbon Accreditation, just one year after joining the programme.

The latest milestone reflects the operator’s continued commitment to environmental sustainability and aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

Among the achievements, Arar Airport has upgraded to Level 4+ of the programme, becoming the highest accredited airport in Saudi Arabia. The airport is aligning its carbon management ambition with global climate goals and engaging stakeholders across the airport value chain.

Five additional airports upgraded to Level 2, recognising their progress in actively managing and reducing carbon emissions. Sixteen airports renewed their Level 1 certification, maintaining their commitment to mapping and monitoring their carbon footprint.

The progress has been supported by a range of decarbonisation initiatives implemented across the airport network. These include the installation of 653 solar powered lighting poles, with 322 deployed at Taif International Airport and 331 at Al Wajh Domestic Airport.

Cluster2 Airports has also deployed 46 electric vehicle charging stations and 92 electric vehicle parking spaces across 20 airports, while continuing the expansion of LED lighting systems and improving cooling and HVAC efficiency throughout its facilities.

In parallel, the operator is participating in national afforestation programmes, supporting a target to plant one million trees over the next decade as part of broader efforts to strengthen environmental resilience and reduce emissions.
