Cabo Verde Airports’ entire network joins at Level 1 Mapping

février 6, 2025

We are delighted to welcome Cabo Verde Airports to the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, with all seven of its international and domestic airports—Aeroporto Amílcar Cabral, Aeroporto Nelson Mandela, Aeroporto Aristides Pereira, Aeroporto Cesária Évora, Aeródromo de São Filipe, Aeródromo da Preguiça, and Aeródromo do Maio—successfully achieving Level 1 Mapping.

By entering the programme at this level, Cabo Verde Airports, owned by VINCI Airports, has taken an important first step towards decarbonisation. The commitment involves conducting a detailed analysis of CO₂ emissions across its airport network and developing structured plans to reduce them.

As part of its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, Cabo Verde Airports has already implemented significant renewable energy initiatives. At Aeroporto Nelson Mandela, a photovoltaic installation in the airport’s parking area has been completed, and energy generation will soon commence. Meanwhile, the Boa Vista Sun Power project at Aeroporto Aristides Pereira is an important step towards energy self-sufficiency. This initiative includes the installation of a photovoltaic park and battery storage system, generating almost 600 MWh per year and providing 700 kW of storage power. Recognised for its innovation, this project was awarded at the VINCI Environment Award 2024, demonstrating the airport operator’s commitment to phasing out fossil fuels and promoting long-term, sustainable energy solutions.

Congratulations to the entire team at Cabo Verde Airports for this significant achievement.
