Four airports operated by Queensland Airports Limited achieve Level 4

August 26, 2025
Four airports in Australia, Gold Coast, Townsville, Mount Isa, and Longreach, operated by Queensland Airports Limited, have achieved Level 4 in Airport Carbon Accreditation. The four airports have now developed a long-term, absolute carbon emissions reduction target aligned with IPCC guidance, while also strengthening their stakeholder engagement.
Queensland Airports Limited is committed to achieving net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and has undertaken a series of impactful decarbonisation initiatives to support this goal. Operations at Gold Coast and Townsville Airports have transitioned to 100% renewable energy under a Power Purchase Agreement, while airport fleets at Gold Coast are shifting to electric and hybrid vehicles. Infrastructure upgrades include the installation of energy-efficient lighting, and a stakeholder partnership plan has been introduced to address Scope 3 carbon emissions. Additionally, the airports are actively supporting their business partners in managing and reducing emissions as they progress in their own Net Zero journeys.
Stefano Baronci, Director General at ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East, said: “We congratulate Queensland Airports Limited for its remarkable achievement in attaining Level 4 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation. By establishing itself as a leader in carbon management, Queensland Airports Limited displays a robust commitment to fostering a sustainable future. This accomplishment aligns perfectly with our industry’s collective vision of achieving net zero emissions by 2050”.
