Essedon Fields Airport joins Airport Carbon Accreditation at Level 1 Mapping

We are delighted to announce that Essendon Fields Airport in Australia, has met all the necessary requirements to enter the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme at Level 1 Mapping.

By joining at Level 1, Essendon Fields Airport has committed to developing a detailed analysis of its CO₂ emissions and establishing well-structured plans to reduce them.

The airport has already implemented several initiatives and is planning additional measures to further reduce its CO₂ emissions. These include upgrading the lighting on its runways, taxiways, and aprons, as well as converting car park and streetlights to more energy-efficient LED lighting.

Rooftop solar photovoltaic panels will continue to be installed, creating a significant power supply to feed back into the Essendon Fields network. So far, 1,242 panels have been installed, with plans to increase this number in the future aiming to boost the generation and use of renewable energy onsite.

Brad Evans, Planning Manager at Essendon Fields , said: “This is a great first step to understand where we are today and benchmark ourselves in the industry. Essendon Fields is committed to improving environmental outcomes at the precinct and reducing our carbon footprint. From undertaking to plant 15,000 new trees after already achieving a 10,000-tree milestone in 2022, to installing efficient and emission-reducing LED lighting across the precinct, each action is a sustainable step in the right direction”.
