Nine Aena airports advance their carbon management journey

Aena airports in Spain continue to make strong progress in carbon management, with nine airports renewing or upgrading their certification under Airport Carbon Accreditation.
Palma de Mallorca Airport, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona El Prat Airport, Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas Airport, Ibiza Airport, Málaga Costa del Sol Airport and Alicante Elche Miguel Hernández Airport have all reached Level 4. At this level, airports are required to align their carbon management ambition with global climate goals and transform their operations with absolute emissions reductions in mind, while also strengthening stakeholder engagement. Santiago Rosalía de Castro Airport has upgraded to Level 2, while Menorca Airport has renewed its Level 3 certification.
These achievements reflect a wide range of measures across the airport network, from electrifying own fleet vehicles and replacing older equipment with more efficient alternatives to increasing the use of renewable electricity, expanding photovoltaic generation, improving operational efficiency and supporting cleaner access to airports. They also include the installation of charging points on both the airside and landside, parking incentives for passengers using zero emission vehicles, and agreements with local authorities to improve public transport access to airports.
