Macau International Airport upgrades to Level 3

febrero 24, 2026

Macau International Airport has achieved Level 3 of Airport Carbon Accreditation, a milestone that requires airports to actively engage third parties in managing and reducing the wider carbon footprint of airport activities. These third parties include airlines and a range of service providers operating on site, such as independent ground handlers, catering companies and air traffic control.

Having joined the programme in 2014, the airport has progressively strengthened its approach to measuring, managing and reducing emissions. In recent years, it has implemented a series of practical measures to improve energy performance, including replacing conventional lighting across the airfield and terminal with LED systems, introducing electric vehicles and reducing electricity consumption within its air conditioning systems.

By reaching Level 3, Macau International Airport has expanded the scope of its carbon footprint to include a broader range of indirect emissions. This includes apron activities and aircraft landing and take off operations, staff commuting and business travel, passenger surface access and emissions linked to airport waste and wastewater treatment. The airport has also actively engaged stakeholders across the airport community to support coordinated carbon reduction efforts.
