DHMI airports in Türkiye record entries, upgrades and renewals in Airport Carbon Accreditation

Airports operated by DHMI in Türkiye have recorded new entries, upgrades and a high number of renewals within Airport Carbon Accreditation.

Istanbul Atatürk Airport and Rize Artvin Airport have joined the programme at Level 1, marking the starting point of their structured carbon management journey. At the same time, Konya Airport, Balıkesir Koca Seyit Airport, Çanakkale Airport, Sinop Airport and Sivas Airport have advanced to Level 3, reflecting progress in managing emissions and engaging with third parties.

In addition, 38 airports within the DHMI portfolio have successfully renewed their Level 2 accreditation, maintaining their commitment to continuous carbon management and verified emissions reductions.

This progress is supported by a range of operational measures already in place. These include the development of a route planning system for ground vehicles to reduce fuel related emissions, as well as an annual maintenance planning system to improve the efficiency of electric motors. Energy efficiency measures have also been implemented, notably the transition from conventional lighting to LED systems in enclosed areas.

Looking ahead, DHMI airports are planning further steps to support their decarbonisation efforts by 2030. These include the installation of solar energy systems, the electrification of passenger vehicle fleets, improvements in the efficiency of combustion units, the use of refrigerants with lower global warming potential in air conditioning systems, and the replacement of SF6 based transformers with air insulated alternatives.
