Darwin International Airport joins directly at Level 3 Optimisation

We are delighted to announce that Darwin International Airport in Australia, has met all the necessary requirements to enter the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme directly at Level 3 Optimisation.

Achieving Level 3 requires airports to expand the scope of their carbon footprint assessment to include various Scope 3 emissions and present evidence of engaging with third-party operators to reduce these emissions. This builds on the continued efforts to reduce emissions under the airport’s direct control, which is the key requirement of Level 2 Reduction.

Operated by Airport Development Group (ADG), Darwin International Airport demonstrates its commitment to reducing emissions through significant investments in on-site renewable generation. These include the installation of large roof-mounted and ground-mounted solar farms, terminal and apron LED lighting upgrades, and the integration of hybrid vehicles into its fleet, including two electric vehicles.

ADG is committed to training, raising awareness, and creating pathways to communicate the various activities implemented by the business to reduce carbon emissions. Sandra De Kock, Executive General Manager – People, Culture and Community at ADG, said: “We have made a conscious decision to actively focus our efforts on reducing our carbon footprint; communicate effectively and engage with our key stakeholders across the business.
