Cabo Verde Airports charts a path toward carbon optimisation

April 3, 2025
Cabo Verde Airports, part of the VINCI Airports network, has taken an important step in its sustainability journey by joining Airport Carbon Accreditation at Level 1. All seven of the country’s airports and aerodromes have been accredited, marking a key milestone in the operator’s efforts to reduce its carbon emissions.
Achieving this level less than two years after becoming part of the VINCI Airports network reflects Cabo Verde Airports’ successful alignment with VINCI’s overarching sustainability strategy.
The operator has already rolled out several initiatives across its network that show a clear commitment to decarbonisation. These include switching all airport lighting to energy-efficient LED technology and installing solar power systems at the airports in São Vicente, Praia, and Boa Vista. Boa Vista has also introduced lithium battery energy storage to further support its use of renewable energy. Looking ahead, Cabo Verde Airports is aiming to reach Level 3 by 2028.
Jorge Benchimol Duarte, CEO at Cabo Verde Airports, said: “We are taking solid steps towards materialising the VINCI Group’s sustainability ambition and, specifically, in reducing our carbon footprint, implementing a plan for the short, medium and long term.”
