Brazilian media spotlight decarbonisation efforts across ACI Latin America and the Caribbean

December 17, 2025
Brazilian media are drawing attention to the significant progress airports in Latin America and the Caribbean are making in reducing their carbon footprint. Recent coverage by Correio, a leading outlet in Bahia, highlighted how airports in the region are not only keeping pace with global decarbonisation efforts but are emerging as leaders in implementing practical, measurable climate action. The article notes that airports are investing in initiatives that cut emissions and promote sustainable practices, ensuring that growth aligns with long-term environmental targets.
In a separate article on R7, one of Brazil’s major digital news portals, Rafael Echevarne, Director General at ACI Latin America and the Caribbean, emphasised that airports in the region are making tangible progress in reducing emissions and advancing the global climate agenda. He noted that the region has now reached 103 accredited airports, the second-highest number globally after Europe. Echevarne highlighted that these efforts are benefiting communities near airports through cleaner, more sustainable operations, while also strengthening local economies with more resilient infrastructure.
This media coverage clearly highlights a period of unprecedented momentum for Airport Carbon Accreditation in Latin America and the Caribbean, as more than 100 airports take an active role in shaping a more sustainable future for air transport while maintaining the essential connectivity the region depends on.
