ACI Africa boosts environmental sustainability know-how of African airports through training initiatives

ACI Africa continues to reinforce its commitment to environmental sustainability with the successful completion of its five-day Environmental Management Systems at Your Airports course, delivered in partnership with the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA). This marks the third onsite training provided free of charge to ACI Africa members this year, as part of the African Airports Development Program (AADP). The initiative aims to upskill airport personnel across Africa in essential environmental practices.

The training, aligned with ISO 14001 standards, aimed to equip African airport professionals with the tools necessary to develop and implement comprehensive Environmental Management Systems (EMS). Participants, representing airports from across the region, engaged in hands-on learning focused on identifying and managing environmental risks and impacts, while fostering sustainability within airport operations.

Delivered by ENVISA, a valued World Business Partner of ACI Africa, this course reflects the broader vision of ACI Africa to promote advanced environmental management across the airports of the region. The training also aligns with KAA’s sustainability objectives, ensuring that African airports are well-prepared to meet their decarbonisation targets and implement best-in-class environmental practices.

In addition to this, ACI Africa held its Airport Sustainable Development: ESG & Finance course in Dakar, Senegal, hosted by Limak AIBD Summa in June. This course, delivered in partnership with NACO – another key ACI Africa World Business Partner – focused on the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles with airport finance strategies. It provided participants with the knowledge to drive sustainable growth and integrate ESG considerations into financial planning and operations.
