13 OMA airports reach Level 3 Optimisation

We are delighted to announce that 13 airports operated by Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA) in Mexico have successfully upgraded to Level 3 Optimisation of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme.

Achieving Level 3 demonstrates OMA’s commitment to advancing its carbon management efforts by expanding the scope of its carbon footprint assessment to include various Scope 3 emissions. The group has also provided evidence of collaboration with third-party operators to reduce these emissions.

OMA has demonstrated a sustained reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, with key initiatives such as the deployment of solar panels, battery banks, and electric airport buses, significantly cutting fuel consumption and electricity use. The airport group has also developed stakeholder engagement programmes across all its airports, encouraging responsible operational practices and further driving emissions reductions.

A key focus of OMA’s sustainability strategy is collaboration with airlines, commercial partners, and airport tenants to embed environmental responsibility throughout airport operations. This includes initiatives such as renewable energy adoption for third-party consumption, in-flight waste segregation pilot programmes, awareness campaigns on natural resource conservation, and working groups dedicated to decarbonisation efforts. These comprehensive actions align with OMA’s overarching goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
